What is wood veneer?
Episode 2 of our Vlog series talks about what is wood veneer when selecting furniture.
There is a common belief that furniture made with veneer is something to avoid, and that solid wood is always better. Veneer is not a modern invention and makes up 90% of new furniture; Veneer means a thin surface of higher quality wood placed over a lower quality wood. Most new furniture is built in this manner. Solid wood does have a major limitation in that it shrinks, grows, twists, splits and warps as the humidity of the surrounding environment changes. This movement cannot be prevented and in many cases cannot be fixed.
